This page serves as the official formalized LCAP code of conduct approved by the steering committee on 01-22-25:
Long Covid Action Project (LCAP) Policy Against Infiltration Tactics:
Formalizing LCAP’s Code of Conduct: Long Covid Action Project (LCAP) strictly prohibits the use of any tactics aimed at undermining, dividing, or infiltrating the movement to end the Long Covid crisis. These tactics are counterproductive to our goals of unity, advocacy, and effective action. Specifically, LCAP will not tolerate any of the following FBI related tactics as outlined in the tweet from @LongCovidAP on 09-28-24:
- Creating a Negative Public Image: Surveillance of activists and releasing negative personal information to the public with the intent to discredit them.
- Breaking Down Internal Organization: Actions that exacerbate internal conflicts, such as promoting racial tensions or sending anonymous letters to create discord within our ranks.
- Creating Dissension Between Groups: Spreading rumors or false information to sow distrust among allied groups, including accusations of financial misconduct.
- Restricting Access to Public Resources: Pressuring non-profit organizations or other entities to cut off funding or material support to LCAP or related initiatives.
- Restricting the Ability to Organize Protests: Promoting violence against law enforcement or other disruptive behaviors during the planning or execution of protests, which could limit our ability to organize effectively or painting activists with FBI watchlist terminology, such as labeling people as violent or cult and calling for their arrest.
- Restricting Participation Through Character Assassination: Engaging in character assassinations, false arrest threats, or surveillance to prevent individuals from participating in LCAP activities, e.g. conflating accounts who’ve violated these policies as a part of LCAP but who have no role in either committees or volunteer work.
- Alienation & Othering: any and all use of dividing community solidarity through labeling and dehumanizing people as “grifters” “fake” “actors” or the like who either have Long Covid, are researchers, advocates, activists, or are businesses working to treat or cure Long Covid without proof of wrongdoing, or by calling their disease into question.
- Virtue Signaling: falsely representing one’s own position or character as a means to justify violating any one of the eight tacts outlined above.
Action Consensus:
In alignment with our Action Consensus (https://longcovidactionproject.com/action-consensus/), LCAP commits to:
Solidarity: We stand in solidarity with all affected by Long Covid, ensuring our actions are inclusive, diverse, and anti-oppressive. This includes protecting our members from any form of harassment or division tactics as described above. LCAP affirms its continued solidarity for anti-racism, and is against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQQIP2SAA+) people who promote their self-affirmation, dignity & equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance. We do not tolerate attacks on race or gender. Through non-violent direct action we fight against all forms and expressions of colonial power that divide & destroy solidarity.
Transparency and Accountability: We maintain transparency in our operations, ensuring that our actions reflect our commitment to fighting Long COVID and supporting the community affected by it.
Non-Violence: Our protests and actions will remain non-violent, respecting the law and focusing on peaceful advocacy and awareness.
Direct Action: We engage in direct action to mobilize public awareness and drive government accountability, ensuring our efforts are directed towards positive change rather than internal strife.
Commitment to Community Support:
As emphasized in our post from @LongCovidAP on 02-27-24, LCAP is dedicated to protecting our volunteers and committee members from any form of division or harassment. If you wish to join the LCAP team, you can do so publicly or anonymously, with the process involving a vouch from one or more committee members and approval by the LCAP steering committee. This ensures that our community remains strong and united in the face of external threats.
Enforcement:
Any individual or entity found to be engaging in the prohibited tactics will be subject to immediate review by the LCAP steering committee. Actions may include:
- Removal from LCAP committees or volunteer positions.
- Public denouncement, if necessary, to protect the integrity of the movement.
- Legal action, if the tactics constitute illegal activities.
- Blocking from social media accounts and public spaces
Conclusion:
LCAP is committed to creating a supportive, unified front against Long Covid. The integrity of our movement depends on our collective adherence to this policy, ensuring that our focus remains on advocacy, support, and the urgent need for effective treatment and government action.
This policy is effective immediately and will be reviewed annually or as needed to adapt to new challenges in our fight against Long Covid.
LCAP Action Consensus 2023
We invite all people who align themselves with this agreement to participate in the Long Covid Action Project.
Long Covid Action Projects 2023
In 2023, we will engage in campaigns to address the growing Long Covid demands facing the worldwide community.
Forms of Action
We say what we do and do what we say. Through action, we stand up against infrastructure that fuels the Long COVID crisis and the lack of support for complex chronic conditions. Our goal is to push forward the cause of Long COVID health and disability justice. We intend to put forth a variety of actions and initiatives, including and not limited to: Petitions, direct mailings, political lobbying, protest actions, online communications, and media creatives.
Through possibilities of obtaining information in the run-up to each action, each person will make a conscious decision about their role in the forms of action.
We will not let ourselves be stopped by structural obstacles; we will flow through and around institutional or academic barriers. We act thoughtfully and do not harm people. Our actions are not directed against people, but against health and disability injustice.
Our diverse forms of protest and action reflect our values of diversity, creativity and openness. We strive to break down barriers to allow all people to participate.
Capacities
We pay attention to one another. Everyone should decide for themselves how to take action. We make space for each others’ symptoms and help when a member needs to rest. We support each other, we process the experience together and bear repercussions collectively.
Cooperation with Related Long Covid Groups
We invite related groups to enrich our mission with their forms of action. Should groups express a wish for support, it is for LCAP and support structures to decide, based on their capacities and in close exchange with the groups, whether and how they can support them.
Self-Understanding
We come from different social movements and political spectra and see ourselves as part of the Long Covid health justice movement. We are in solidarity with all those who resist for a just society. We resist petty divisions and infighting in order to make the greatest positive collective impact. We focus on the work to be done.
In our actions we envision the world we want to see. We make our decisions in a grassroots democratic way and by consensus; we try to reduce hierarchies as much as possible.
No Room For Gaslighting & Discrimination
Our struggle for a health justice world is inclusive, diverse, and anti-oppressive.
We are committed to being aware of and taking action against everyday and structural discrimination among ourselves and by society. We will provide space and solidarity to the people and groups among us who are affected by discrimination.
For #LongCovidAwarenessMonth and #LongCovidAwarenessDay we invite everyone to join w/ LCAP, a non-partisan trans-founded organization, to call for solidarity & actions that are inclusive, diverse, & anti-oppressive in order to take down structural discrimination.
